Dermatologists are urging caution after reports of people attempting to pop pimples that appear above the eye. Experts say this practice can be more dangerous than it looks, as the area around the upper eyelid and brow is particularly sensitive.
“The skin above the eye is close to the orbital region, and infections here can spread quickly,” warns Dr. Alicia Romero, a dermatologist and skin health researcher. “A popped pimple in this area can lead to swelling, scarring, or in rare cases, severe eye infections.”
Instead of squeezing, specialists recommend these safe care methods:
-
Hands off: Avoid touching or pressing the pimple to reduce the risk of spreading bacteria.
-
Gentle cleansing: Wash with a mild, non-irritating cleanser to keep the area clean.
-
Warm compress: Apply a clean, warm cloth for a few minutes to ease inflammation naturally.
-
Careful spot treatment: If needed, use low-strength acne gels (like salicylic acid) around — but never directly on — the eyelid.
-
Professional care: If the pimple grows painful, swollen, or doesn’t heal, seek medical advice to prevent complications.
Doctors emphasize that acne in delicate areas should always be handled with extra care. “Above the eye is not the place to experiment with DIY pimple popping,” Dr. Romero adds. “Prevention and gentle treatment are far safer.”
