Dermatologists around the world are reporting a growing number of patients dealing with facial acne — a common skin problem that affects both teenagers and adults. Characterized by pimples, blackheads, or inflamed cysts, facial acne can impact not only skin health but also self-confidence.
“Facial acne occurs when oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells clog pores,” explains Dr. Michelle Torres, a dermatologist based in New York. “But stress, hormones, diet, and improper skincare routines are making breakouts more frequent and persistent.”
Experts note that while mild acne can often be managed with over-the-counter treatments containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, more severe cases may require prescription medications or professional therapies such as chemical peels and laser treatments.
Dermatologists also advise against squeezing or picking pimples, which can lead to infection, dark spots, and permanent scarring. Instead, maintaining a gentle skincare routine and using non-comedogenic (non-pore-clogging) products are key preventive measures.
“Acne is one of the most treatable skin conditions,” Dr. Torres emphasizes. “With the right care and consistency, most people can achieve clear, healthy skin.”
